Auditions include an informal 10-minute interview, and prospective applicants are expected to sing a prepared song which will be accompanied by our pianist. The South Hills Chorale offers a scholarship program for high school juniors and seniors who show talent in choral music to give them an opportunity to rehearse and perform with us. Last year four students were selected to participate. The scholarship program offers memberships to students free of charge, the music is also free, but the costume charges are the students' responsibility. Some of the guidelines and requirements of membership are: A) Rehearsals are every Monday evening beginning in September and lasting through May - Ensembles at 6:45 PM and Full Chorale at 7:30 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon. There are Saturday Workshops (9:00 AM until 3:00 PM) for concentrated work on particular music, as well as Sunday afternoon rehearsals, usually 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The week of a concert is devoted to technical rehearsals usually at Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. B) Dues of $35.00 are paid each season, generally in the fall. Members are required to pay a one-time music deposit of $25.00. This entitles members access to all music to be performed. Ladies obtain their costumes and any accessories from the Chorale for a fee from our Costume chairpersons. Men are to purchase their own tuxedos and white dinner jackets. C) Your audition and acceptance into the South Hills Chorale (a) reflect a sincere desire on your part to participate in the creation of choral music; and (b) imply a commitment on your part to sing in the 2 major concerts (Winter and Spring) as well as any Community concerts in a particular season. |
